FSSAI Establishes Task Force to Combat Food Contamination

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken a strong stance against food adulteration in the country. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the formation of a specialized team, in collaboration with state authorities, to combat the issue. This development comes shortly after the FSSAI initiated a nationwide inspection of milk and dairy products to tackle adulteration and ensure food safety standards.

Ensuring the Health of Citizens:

During the inauguration of the National Training Centre for FSSAI in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the importance of a healthy citizenry for India's journey towards becoming a developed nation. He stated that a healthy population, referred to as "Swasth Nagrik," is crucial for a prosperous nation, a "Samruddha Rashtra." The minister expressed the government's commitment to maintaining food safety and vowed zero tolerance towards food adulteration.

Stringent Measures and Nationwide Testing:

Large-scale testing will be conducted across the country to identify and take action against those involved in adulteration practices. The Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 will serve as the basis for legal consequences faced by offenders. The FSSAI aims to leave no room for compromise when it comes to the purity and quality of food products consumed by citizens.

Training Center for Food Safety and Standards:

The newly inaugurated National Training Centre for FSSAI in Ghaziabad is set to play a crucial role in strengthening food safety standards across the country. Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, SP Singh Baghel, highlighted the FSSAI's responsibility in setting food standards and emphasized that the training center would bridge the gap between existing knowledge and desired knowledge or skills in the field of food safety and standards. The center will provide structured instruction and practical learning experiences to ensure a well-equipped and skilled workforce dedicated to upholding safety standards.

Focus on Skill Development:

As mandated by the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards Rules of 2011, the FSSAI is responsible for providing training to individuals involved in food businesses. This includes food business operators, employees, food safety officers, and designated officers. The dedicated training center will address the need for skill development, ensuring the availability of a competent workforce committed to upholding food safety standards.

Introducing FoSTaC App:

In addition to the training center, the FSSAI launched the Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC) e-learning app. The app contains modules and training materials that educate street vendors about food safety guidelines. By providing accessible and comprehensive information, the FSSAI aims to raise awareness and promote compliance with safety standards among street food vendors.
