Mukesh Ambani and Isha Ambani pose major challenge to Swiggy, Blinkit, and Zepto with JioMart's no delivery fee strategy
Mukesh and Isha Ambani are shaking up the quick commerce game! With JioMart offering zero delivery fees, they're bringing serious competition to Swiggy, Blinkit, and Zepto. Will this no-fee strategy change the game?
Reliance Retail has officially re-entered the quick commerce market, intensifying competition with established players like Blinkit (Zomato), Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket. Through its e-commerce platform, JioMart, Reliance has begun offering fast delivery services in select areas of Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru, aiming to capture a significant share of the growing market.
No Delivery Fees on JioMart
In a strategy reminiscent of Jio's disruption in the telecom sector, JioMart is setting itself apart by offering customers zero delivery fees and waiving platform charges. Unlike Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket, JioMart promises:
- Free delivery on all orders, regardless of size.
- No surge fees or extra charges, even during peak hours or on small orders.
This no-fee model is expected to attract price-sensitive consumers, particularly in smaller towns and cities where such services are not yet common. The strategy could also draw customers away from rivals who currently impose delivery and platform fees.
Expanding Into Untapped Markets
According to reports, Reliance Retail plans to expand its quick commerce services to 1,150 cities across India, covering over 5,000 pin codes. A key focus of the company's strategy is targeting regions where competitors have limited or no presence, giving JioMart a competitive edge by reaching underserved areas.
Unlike other quick commerce players who rely on dark stores or neighborhood warehouses, Reliance is utilizing its existing store network and logistics service, Grab, to facilitate fast deliveries. This approach allows JioMart to scale quickly without investing in new infrastructure.
Broader Product Offerings on the Horizon
Currently, JioMart's quick commerce services focus on groceries. However, Reliance Retail is planning to expand into other categories, including fashion and electronics. With its extensive network of retail stores like Reliance Digital and Trends, the company will be able to fulfill a wide range of orders within 10 to 30 minutes.

Reliance aims to offer 10,000 to 12,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), providing a broader product selection than its competitors. However, the challenge of delivering within 30 minutes in congested metro areas remains a hurdle. Despite this, Reliance’s resources and aggressive expansion plans position it well to overcome these obstacles and gain a competitive advantage in the market.
