MUMBAI - A routine dinner outing turned into a horrifying ordeal for a patron at a popular Mumbai restaurant, as he unknowingly bit into a piece of rat meat concealed within his chicken curry. The distressing incident has led to charges being filed against the restaurant's manager and chef, according to local authorities.
Identified as Anurag Singh, the customer visited the Punjabi cuisine eatery situated in Bandra on a Sunday evening, accompanied by his friend Amin. Placing their orders for two dishes - one featuring mutton and the other chicken-based curry - the friends settled in for their meal.
As the meal was served, Mr. Singh commenced enjoying his chicken curry, initially noticing nothing amiss. However, his perception took a drastic turn upon encountering an unusual texture while chewing a piece of meat from the dish. Upon closer examination, he was stunned to realize that what he had mistaken for chicken was, in fact, a lifeless rat.
Appalled and nauseated, the two customers promptly brought their concerns to the attention of the restaurant's manager. Mr. Singh alleged that the manager's responses were evasive and unsatisfactory, exacerbating their distress. Furthermore, he reported feeling unwell shortly after the incident, necessitating a visit to a medical professional.
Subsequently, Mr. Singh took matters into his own hands and lodged a formal complaint with the local police. Following his complaint, a legal case was registered against the restaurant's chef, manager, and the supplier responsible for the chicken.
The charges levied against the accused parties include offenses related to food adulteration and endangerment of the safety and well-being of patrons, according to law enforcement authorities.
This unsettling occurrence bears resemblance to a similar event that transpired last month. A Twitter user alleged discovering a deceased rat within a dish served at a prominent restaurant in Ludhiana, Punjab. A viral video circulating on social media portrayed a rat submerged in gravy. The restaurant, however, refuted the video's authenticity and accused the customer of tarnishing its reputation.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the incident highlights the critical importance of stringent food safety measures and quality control within the hospitality industry. Patrons are left grappling with concerns about the transparency and integrity of the food served at eateries, underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and accountability in the culinary sector.
