ONDC surpasses 35,000 daily orders and targets 200,000 transactions by year-end
Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) achieves a new daily peak of 35,000 retail orders, with Delhi-NCR surpassing Bengaluru in volume. ONDC aims to reach 200,000 daily transactions by year-end. The government-backed platform seeks to compete with Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato
Lat week, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) surpassed a new daily retail orders peak of 35,000 even though Delhi-NCR outperformed Bengaluru in terms of order volume. On Sunday, Bengaluru added more than 7,000 orders to the total of over 11,000 orders from Delhi-NCR.
According to sources cited in a Moneycontrol investigation, food and grocery products were registered in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune for 2,500–3,000 apiece.
The government-backed ecommerce network is getting ready to reach 200,000 transactions per day by the end of this year, according to ONDC’s CEO T Koshy, who spoke at a recent event.
In May, ONDC reached 10,000 orders, with 40% of those coming from Bengaluru. Additionally, metro areas like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata collectively provide the same percentage.
The government-backed online retailer is actively vying to supplant rivals like Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato.
In two years, ONDC hopes to enroll 1.2 million suppliers in addition to 900 million buyers.
When the network reached 25,000 orders in the second week of May, growth on the network slowed down. This happened at the same time when network participants received less consumer discounts and incentives. Discounts were formerly granted to customers on three orders each day, however this has been increased to 30 orders total.
Although the long-term viability of the existing economic model is unclear, ONDC intends to expand its coverage of Indian cities. The website launched in five additional cities earlier this month: Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
Additionally, Pin code has expanded operations to include more cities in Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kolkata. PhonePe has also expanded its ONDC native ecommerce platform.
Ambarish Kenghe, vice president of Google Pay, stated at a developer conference in June that Google has also established an accelerator program for the platform in order to help ONDC’s expansion aspirations. Businesses on ONDC will be able to utilize Google Cloud’s technology and professional advice in order to provide seamless digital commerce experiences.
