The medical community in Nagpur is mourning the loss of a student from the B.Sc Nursing College, which is part of the Government Medical College (Medical). The student, Sheetal Rajkumar, aged 18, tragically passed away on Wednesday night. Her body was subsequently transported to Jammu on Thursday evening.
Sheetal, who resided in Katua near Jammu, had come to Nagpur in November for nursing training and was staying at a medical student hostel. On the evening of July 3rd, she experienced symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea after consuming panipuri. She sought medical treatment the following day, and the doctor recommended her admission to the hospital. However, sources indicate that she was reluctant to be admitted. As her condition worsened, she was eventually admitted to the Intensive Care Unit on July 5th. Sadly, she passed away during treatment that night. Following the news of her death, nursing students gathered in front of the medical morgue to express their grief.
The exact cause of Sheetal's death is still under discussion. It is known that she fell ill after consuming panipuri, but the definitive cause will only be determined after the autopsy report, as stated by Dr. Sharad Kuchewar, the Medical Superintendent. Sheetal's father, who works as a farmer, arrived in Nagpur with his wife and son upon receiving the news of their daughter's passing. The sudden loss of their daughter left them devastated.
Additionally, two other female students residing in the same hostel were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit due to the shock caused by Sheetal's death. However, the medical administration has reported that their conditions have since stabilized.
A farewell ceremony was held for Sheetal at the nursing hostel premises. Dr. Kuchewar, the Superintendent, Matron Vaishali Taide, Shahjad Baba Khan from the Nurses Association, and nursing students paid their final respects to her. Many individuals were overcome with sorrow when Sheetal's belongings were brought out, and her friends mourned the sudden departure of a dear companion. Later in the evening, her body was transported to her hometown near Jammu in an ambulance.
