Punjab News, Sangrur Govt School: 74 Children Admitted to Hospital Due to Contaminated Food; CM Mann Initiates Investigation

Sangrur, Punjab - In a distressing incident on Friday, as many as 74 children fell seriously ill after consuming contaminated food at a government school in Punjab's Sangrur district. The affected students, exhibiting symptoms such as foaming at the mouth, stomach ache, and vomiting, were rushed to Civil Hospital and PGI Sangrur for medical attention.

According to reports, parents of the affected children have leveled accusations of negligence against both the school management and the mess contractor. The parents claim that the children were fed poor-quality food since Diwali, and their complaints about the food quality had been consistently ignored by the school managers.

Late on Friday night, a total of 74 children were admitted to the Civil Hospital, with 14 of them being discharged after receiving first aid. Unfortunately, four children were in critical condition and were admitted for further treatment. On Saturday morning, an additional 36 children from the same school were admitted to the Civil Hospital, while 20 others were admitted to PGI Sangrur.

The children undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital and PGI Sangrur have reported seeing insects in the food, highlighting the alleged disregard for their safety by the mess contractor. Parents are expressing their anger and grief over the condition of their children, demanding swift action against those responsible for the lapse in food quality.

Local authorities are now investigating the incident, and measures are being taken to ensure the well-being of the affected children. The school management and mess contractor may face legal consequences pending the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and quality of food provided in government schools, prompting calls for stricter oversight to prevent such incidents in the future.
