Dahi Bhalla is a popular North Indian street food and a delicious appetizer.
Here's an easy-to-follow recipe for making Dahi Bhalla at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Urad Dal (skinned black gram)
- 2 cups Yogurt (dahi)
- 1 tsp Salt (or as per taste)
- 1 tsp Red chili powder
- 1 tsp Roasted cumin powder
- 1 tsp Chaat masala
- Tamarind chutney
- Green chutney
- Oil (for deep frying)
Instructions:
- Wash and soak the urad dal in water for 3-4 hours.
- Drain the water and grind the dal to a fine paste using a mixer or blender. Add a little water if needed.
- Whisk the dal batter for a few minutes until it becomes light and fluffy.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Take a small portion of the batter in your hand and drop it into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried bhallas from the oil and let them cool.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the yogurt with salt until it becomes smooth.
- Soak the fried bhallas in water for a few minutes to make them soft.
- Squeeze out the water from the bhallas and transfer them to the yogurt mixture.
- Add red chili powder, roasted cumin powder, and chaat masala to the mixture and mix well.
- Refrigerate the dahi bhalla for at least 2 hours before serving.
Note: To serve, place the dahi bhalla in a serving plate and pour tamarind chutney and green chutney on top. Sprinkle some chaat masala and roasted cumin powder and serve chilled.
