21 BSF jawans have been hospitalized in Tripura due to suspected food poisoning. Authorities are investigating the incident while providing medical care to the affected personnel
In an unfortunate incident, 21 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans stationed at a border outpost in Tripura's Unakoti district were hospitalized on Wednesday due to suspected food poisoning. The personnel, belonging to Battalion No. 199 at the Latiapura border outpost, fell ill and had to be admitted to nearby medical facilities.
According to local police authorities, some of the BSF troopers experienced mild symptoms and were provided with oral treatment before being returned to the border outpost. Shibu Chandra Dey, the Sun-Divisional Police Officer in Kailashahar, stated that approximately 30 BSF troopers were affected by the food poisoning incident. Presently, 21 individuals are receiving treatment at the hospital, while the remaining personnel are being monitored at the border outpost.
Dr. Sankha Subha Debnath from Kailashahar's Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Hospital reported that 16 of the BSF personnel were admitted to his facility, while five were taken to the district hospital. Dr. Debnath mentioned that their condition is not critical but requires observation until they fully recover.
Kunal Minj, one of the affected BSF personnel, shared his account of the incident, stating that the extreme temperatures might have played a role. After consuming their meals, the troops began experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
In response to the situation, a team of district health officials has collected samples of the food and water served to the BSF troopers at the border outpost. These samples will undergo testing to determine the cause of the food poisoning incident.
The health and well-being of the BSF personnel remain a top priority, and authorities are working diligently to investigate the incident and provide appropriate medical care to the affected individuals.
