The Miyazaki mango, which sells for almost Rs 2.75 lakh per kg on the international market, was featured in the present Mango Festival in Siliguri. The three-day Mango Festival got underway in Siliguri on June 9. At a mall in Siliguri, the seventh Mango edition is being put on by the Modella Caretaker Center & School (MCCS) and Association for Conservation & Tourism (ACT).

The event has over 262 different mango types, and 55 producers from nine different West Bengal districts are taking part. There are several well-known cultivars on show, including Alphonso, Langra, Amrapali, Suryapuri, Ranipasand, Laxmanbhog, Fajli, Bira, Sindu, Himsagar, Kohitoor, and others. Mango enthusiast Sandy Acharya from Siliguri claimed to have seen a wide variety of mangoes on a single platform. He said that at the fair, he had the opportunity to see the Miyazaki mango, which is the most costly in the world. He went on to say that it was wonderful to learn that Bengali farmers were cultivating this mango in their gardens.

A Miyazaki farmer from Labhpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal named Shoukat Hussein stated that he was taking part in the event for the first time and had brought the Miyazaki variety with him. He continued by saying that he purchased the drafting saplings from Bangladesh and placed them in his Birbhum garden.

“Extensive production received favorable feedback. It may be cultivated anywhere in the state and alter the farmers’ financial situation, he continued.

According to Raj Basu, Convenor, ACT and co-partner of the Mango Festival, more than 262 different species of mangoes were on show, with Miyazaki serving as the festival’s main draw. “People are swarming the mango, and we got a ton of questions. The event is intended to promote travel. The group has urged UNESCO to quickly designate Sompur, Paharpur ,Mahavihara as the mango historical corridor or Intunjable Cultural historical in the Bangladesh-Darjeeling Himalayan Railway(DHR) corridor, Basu said.

In California, Miyazaki mango production began in the year 1940. It later arrived in Miyazaki, Japan, earning the nickname “Miyazaki mango.”

Bengal-based Indian farmers have just begun producing the type in their gardens. ‘Red Sun’ and ‘Surja Dim’ (Red egg), both in Bengali, are other names for it. The mango is well-liked for its vitamins, flavors, colors, and sugar levels.
