McDonald’s India Brings Back Sanjeev Kapoor for New ‘Protein Plus Slice’ Campaign
McDonald’s India (West & South) teams up once again with celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor to launch the innovative 100% vegetarian ‘Protein Plus Slice’, offering customers a customizable protein boost in their burgers. The new campaign highlights McDonald’s continued commitment to health-conscious food innovation.
McDonald’s India (West & South), operated by Westlife Foodworld, has unveiled a new chapter in its culinary innovation journey with the launch of the ‘Protein Plus Slice’—a 100% vegetarian, plant-based protein offering that can be added to McDonald’s burgers for a personalized nutritional boost.
To drive home the message, the QSR giant has released a light-hearted brand film featuring celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, marking the continuation of a successful partnership that began last year with the introduction of Multi-Millet Buns.
Conceptualized by DDB Mudra, the film captures a witty moment at a McDonald’s counter where Chef Kapoor interacts with a young gym-goer and his enthusiastic younger sibling. As the elder brother places his usual order, Kapoor encourages them to try the new Protein Plus Slice. What follows is a playful sibling rivalry—first two slices, then three—demonstrating how customers of all ages can now tailor their burgers to meet their protein goals.
The Protein Plus Slice, developed in collaboration with CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), contains 5 grams of protein per slice, offering a smart and tasty way to enhance protein intake without compromising on flavor. This innovation is fully in line with McDonald’s India’s ‘Real Food, Real Good’ brand philosophy, which focuses on combining taste with nutritional science.
Akshay Jatia, CEO of Westlife Foodworld, emphasized the strategic importance of this new addition:
“At McDonald’s India, we continue to offer choices that reflect the evolving preferences of our customers. With the Protein Plus Range, customers can now enjoy their favourite burgers while meeting their protein needs. This reflects our commitment to a menu that’s wholesome yet flavorful.”
Echoing this sentiment, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor shared his excitement about being part of this milestone:
“It’s always a pleasure collaborating with a brand that values innovation and local preferences. The Protein Plus Slice offers an excellent balance of taste and health. I believe this is a major step forward in making personalized nutrition mainstream.”
Rahul Mathew, Chief Creative Officer at DDB India, highlighted the inclusivity message behind the campaign:
“McDonald’s has always been for everyone. With this campaign, we’ve extended that philosophy to those who are more conscious about their protein intake—whether they’re hitting the gym or just trying to eat healthier.”
This marks McDonald’s India’s second major partnership with CFTRI, following the introduction of the Multi-Millet Bun—an earlier move aimed at offering nutrient-rich menu options to Indian consumers.
The campaign ends on a high note, with Chef Kapoor declaring, “That’s My McDonald’s,” reinforcing the brand’s position as a place where great taste meets smart nutrition.
Customers in West and South India can now enjoy the Protein Plus Slice at McDonald’s outlets, via Drive-Thru, or order it through the McDelivery App and Swiggy.
