On January 8, 2024, Mr. Shukla ordered a vegetarian meal box from the Worli outlet of the popular restaurant chain. However, his meal took a nightmarish turn when he discovered a dead mouse inside the food. He claims this led to food poisoning and hospitalization for over 75 hours at Nair Hospital.
Shukla's social media post, featuring pictures of the order receipt, the food box with the rat, and himself in a hospital bed, went viral. Authorities were also tagged, urging them to intervene. Barbeque Nation responded to the post, expressing regret for the inconvenience and stating that their regional office will contact Mr. Shukla for a better understanding and resolution.

According to The Free Press Journal, Shukla confirmed the presence of cockroaches in the food along with the rat. This reportedly caused the food poisoning and subsequent hospitalization. He has also lodged a formal complaint with Barbeque Nation via email.
