Jabalpur Shocker: Passenger Forced To Give Smartwatch For Samosa As PhonePe Payment Fails, Vendor Arrested After Video Goes Viral

A disturbing incident at Jabalpur Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh has sparked outrage online after a video showed a passenger being forced to hand over his smartwatch to a food vendor. The altercation reportedly occurred after a PhonePe payment failed, moments before the passenger’s train began to move.

The incident, which took place on Friday, October 17, around 5:30 PM at Platform No. 5, has now led to swift action by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The Incident: PhonePe Payment Fails, Passenger Forced To Pay

According to reports, the passenger stepped off his train to buy samosas from a platform stall. As his train prepared to depart, he attempted to pay through the PhonePe mobile app, but the transaction failed.

When he tried to leave the samosas and catch his train, the vendor allegedly grabbed him by the collar, insisting he pay for the food. With no time to resolve the issue, the passenger handed over his smartwatch to the vendor before running to board the moving train.

A bystander captured the entire scene on video, which has since gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism over passenger safety and the behavior of licensed vendors at railway stations.

RPF Takes Action, Vendor Detained

In response to the viral clip, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jabalpur, confirmed that the vendor was identified and detained by RPF officials. Authorities stated that the vendor’s license is being cancelled and that further investigation is underway.

In a post on social media, the DRM Jabalpur wrote:

“The vendor has been identified and a case has been registered against him by the RPF. He has been taken into custody, and his license will be cancelled.”

Officials also assured that strict measures will be enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future, emphasizing that passenger safety is a top priority.

Public Reaction: Concerns Over Digital Payments and Vendor Conduct

The incident has triggered widespread debate about the reliability of digital payments at railway stations and the need for better regulation of food vendors. Many social media users questioned why passengers are being harassed over small payment issues, especially when digital transaction failures are common due to poor connectivity.

Passengers have urged authorities to install better internet facilities and enforce training and accountability measures for vendors operating on railway premises.
