Swiggy Instamart Users Complain About Unavailability of Eggs and Meat on Maha Shivratri

Several Swiggy Instamart users took to social media today to complain about being unable to order eggs and meat on the platform. The quick-commerce arm of food delivery giant Swiggy seemingly restricted the delivery of non-vegetarian items on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, leading to frustration among customers.

Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival honoring Lord Shiva, believed to mark the night when he performed the cosmic Tandava dance. Many devotees observe fasts and refrain from consuming eggs, meat, and fish on this day.

However, Swiggy Instamart users across multiple locations reported that non-vegetarian items were missing from the app.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “No sign of eggs or non-veg stuff. Quite annoying, this policing.”

While some users experienced missing items, others reported no such issue. The reason behind the selective unavailability remains unclear.

Swiggy’s Response to User Complaints

Swiggy’s official customer care handle, Swiggy Cares, responded to multiple complaints on X. The company assured users that feedback is crucial for improvement.

“We do understand your disappointment. It is only as a result of customer feedback that we can determine our shortfalls and implement strategies to prevent these from recurring,” Swiggy Cares stated in response to one complaint.

To another user, Swiggy suggested reinstalling the Instamart app, though it remains unclear whether this resolves the issue.

The controversy has sparked debate over whether online grocery platforms should regulate product availability based on religious occasions. Swiggy is yet to provide an official explanation for the disruption.
