Sudden Hair Loss Sparks Concern in Maharashtra’s Buldhana District; Water Contamination Suspected

Villages in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district report alarming cases of sudden hair loss leading to baldness. Authorities initiate water contamination tests and medical surveys.

A mysterious wave of sudden hair loss has alarmed residents of several villages in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, with many individuals reporting rapid baldness within days. Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the cause, with water contamination emerging as a potential factor.

Health department officials began conducting surveys in affected villages, including Kalvad, Bondgaon, and Hingna, after receiving complaints. As part of the probe, water samples from these areas have been sent for testing, officials said on Tuesday.

Medical Response Underway

According to Dr. Deepali Bahekar, Shegaon’s health officer, a team has been deployed to evaluate and treat affected residents. The health department has identified 30 cases of unexplained hair loss so far. "Medical treatment is being provided based on symptoms, and skincare specialists have been consulted to offer additional guidance," Bahekar stated.

Focus on Contaminated Water

A Zilla Parishad health team is spearheading the investigation, focusing on local water sources as a possible cause. "Water samples from the villages have been sent for testing to determine if contamination is linked to the hair fall incidents," an official said.

The sudden outbreak has raised concerns among residents and officials alike, prompting swift action to identify and address the underlying issue. The survey and medical efforts are expected to expand as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
