Singapore Recalls Everest Fish Curry Masala Due to Excess Pesticide
The recall affects the popular spice blend imported from India. Consumers are advised not to consume the product and to contact their purchase point or seek medical advice if concerned.
Singapore has recalled Everest Fish Curry Masala, a popular spice blend imported from India, due to the presence of ethylene oxide, a pesticide, at levels exceeding safe limits for consumption. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) initiated the recall after being notified by Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety about the excessive pesticide content.
Ethylene oxide is commonly used as a pesticide to fumigate agricultural products but is strictly prohibited for use in food items. While Singapore regulations allow its use for spice sterilization, the high levels found in Everest Fish Curry Masala pose a potential health risk to consumers.
The SFA has advised consumers not to consume the recalled product and to seek medical attention if they have concerns after consuming it. Consumers can also contact their point of purchase for enquiries. Everest has not yet issued a statement regarding the recall.
