Supaul, Bihar: A 10-year-old girl died and three others fell seriously ill after allegedly consuming samosas and sweets at a private madrasa in Supaul district of Bihar, triggering a police and administrative investigation.
The deceased girl has been identified as 10-year-old Alfisha. The three other girls who fell ill have been identified as Afia, Sahana Khatun and Halima Sadiya.
According to the madrasa management, Alfisha’s mother had visited her daughter on Monday and brought samosas and sweets. The four girls reportedly consumed the food and later developed severe symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhoea. Some reports also stated that the girls became unconscious and were subsequently rushed to private medical facilities for treatment.
Alfisha’s condition reportedly deteriorated during treatment, and she died on Tuesday. The other three girls are undergoing medical treatment.
The incident took place at a private madrasa operated under the Jamia-tus-Salihat Educational Trust in Basbitti, Ward No. 19, under the jurisdiction of Supaul Sadar police station. Around 60–65 girls are reportedly staying and studying at the institution.
Following the incident, police officials visited the madrasa and began questioning the operator, Khalil Rahman, along with teachers and others present at the institution. Officials are also speaking with the doctors treating the affected girls as part of the investigation.
Supaul District Magistrate Sawan Kumar has directed the District Education Office to conduct an inquiry into the incident. An administrative team subsequently inspected the madrasa and examined its documents, residential facilities and arrangements for the students.
Authorities are also looking into whether the madrasa had the necessary permissions to accommodate students on a residential basis and whether the institution was complying with applicable regulations.
Sadar SDM Manohar Kumar Sah also visited the madrasa along with senior police officials following the incident.
While food poisoning is being suspected as a possible cause, authorities have not yet confirmed that the samosas or sweets were contaminated or directly responsible for the girl’s death. Police and medical authorities are investigating the circumstances to establish the exact cause of the illness and death.
According to reports, Alfisha’s family has declined a post-mortem examination.
The investigation remains underway, and further details are expected once medical and administrative findings become available.
