Nearly 2,000 Fall Ill in Nanded Maharashtra Food Poisoning at Religious Event

Nanded, Maharashtra: A large-scale food poisoning incident struck a religious event in Koshtwadi village, Nanded district, on Tuesday, leaving nearly 2,000 people suffering from stomach ailments.
Following a religious discourse, attendees from Koshtwadi and nearby villages consumed food around 5 pm. By early Wednesday morning, individuals began experiencing vomiting and diarrhea.
"Initially, 150 people with these symptoms were admitted to the sub-district hospital in Loha," informed an official. However, the situation escalated as more villagers reported similar issues. "A total of 870 patients were subsequently admitted to various healthcare facilities, including the Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College," the official added.
Authorities arranged additional beds at the Nanded Government Ayurvedic Hospital to accommodate the influx of patients. Samples were collected from affected individuals for further investigation.
"Five teams have been deployed to conduct surveys in the affected villages," stated the official. "A rapid response team has also been formed to probe the incident."
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and the patients are currently in stable condition. The discharge process for individuals who have received treatment is already underway.
This incident highlights the importance of food safety and hygiene standards, especially during large gatherings. The investigation's findings will be crucial in preventing similar occurrences in the future.
