Mumbai: BMC Urges Ghatkopar Residents to Boil Drinking Water for 10 Days from March 17 Due to New Reservoir Supply

Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an advisory for residents of Ghatkopar and nearby areas, urging them to boil drinking water for 10 days starting March 17. This precautionary measure follows the completion of a section of the Ghatkopar Low-Level Reservoir, from which water supply will commence through newly laid pipelines.

Areas Affected by the New Water Supply

The new pipeline network will serve several key areas, including:

  • Vidyavihar West
  • Ghatkopar West
  • Pant Nagar
  • Ghatkopar-Andheri Expressway
  • LBS Road

Additionally, BMC has released a comprehensive list of affected localities, which include:

Narayannagar, Chirag Nagar, Azad Nagar, Ganesh Maidan, New Maniklal Colony, NSS Marg, Mahindra Udyan, DS Marg, Khalai Village, Kirol Village, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Naoroji Gali, H. R. Desai Marg, Shraddhanand Marg, JV Marg

Bhim Nagar, Pawar Chal, Lower Bhimnagar, Crime Branch Premises, Nityanand Nagar, CGS Colony, Gangawadi, MTNL Gully, areas near Shreyas Signal, and HR Desai Marg

Why Is Boiling Water Necessary?

To prevent the risk of consuming contaminated water, residents are advised to boil and purify water before use. Since the new pipeline is being integrated into the existing system, there is a possibility of minor impurities during the initial days of supply.

Next Phase of Reservoir Repairs

Following the completion of section two of the Ghatkopar Low-Level Reservoir, BMC will soon begin repair work on section one to further strengthen the water infrastructure in the region.
