Mother Dairy reduces Dhara edible oil prices by up to Rs 20 per litre following a government directive to lower cooking oil prices due to a decline in global prices

Mother Dairy, a leading Indian dairy company, has cut the maximum retail prices of its edible oils sold under the 'Dhara' brand by Rs 15-20 per litre. The decision comes after the central government directed the edible oil industry body, Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), to lower cooking oil prices due to a decline in global prices.

A spokesperson for Mother Dairy said that the price reduction would be implemented with immediate effect across all Dhara edible oil variants, including soyabean oil, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, and groundnut oil. The price reduction was due to reduced impact on international markets and an increase in the availability of domestic crop, according to the spokesperson.

The reduction in prices is expected to benefit consumers and make cooking oil more affordable. Mother Dairy is a well-known brand that offers a range of milk and milk products, as well as other food products, such as fruits and vegetables, frozen vegetables and snacks, unpolished pulses, pulps, and concentrates, under its 'Safal' brand.

The Solvent Extractors' Association of India had earlier stated that international prices had sharply declined in the last six months, including in the last 60 days. However, local prices had not come down in line with the international market, despite bumper crops of groundnut, soyabean, and mustard. While many brands had reduced their prices in the past, the prevailing MRP of packed edible oil in the market was not in line with the current international prices, the industry body added.

The revised prices for Dhara edible oils are expected to hit the market next week. The reduction in prices is expected to bring relief to consumers amid rising food prices.
