Mahim Pipeline Burst Triggers Water Disruptions in Bandra-Khar; BMC Issues Hygiene Advisory
900-mm pipeline bursts at Mahim Causeway, disrupting water supply in Bandra-Khar; residents advised to boil/filter water after restoration.
Mumbai witnessed major disruption after a 900-mm water pipeline burst at Mahim Causeway near the Mithi River on Monday afternoon (Feb 9, 2026). The incident reportedly occurred around 1:35 PM, when the pipeline was accidentally damaged during excavation work, sending a high-pressure water jet nearly 40–50 feet into the air.
The burst led to severe water wastage and traffic congestion, as large sections of the Mahim Causeway were flooded, forcing police and civic officials to manage diversions.
Residents in Bandra West and Khar West have reported supply disruptions, with localities such as Pali Hill, Hill Road, Perry Road, Carter Road, Khar Danda, and Chuim Village among the most affected.
Meanwhile, BMC’s water department has begun emergency repairs, but the incident has worsened the situation as a 14-hour planned water cut was already scheduled for Tuesday (Feb 10) from 10 AM to 12 midnight for separate repair work near Pali Hill.
Public Advisory
Once supply resumes, residents are advised to boil and filter water for the next few days, as pipeline repairs can sometimes lead to temporary contamination or muddy water.
