Ludhiana: Three Bakery Units Penalised for Unhygienic Practices During Food Safety Drive
Three bakeries in Ludhiana were penalised during a food safety inspection drive for operating under unhygienic conditions. Samples of cakes, cream, oils, and other materials were sent for lab testing.
In a crackdown on unsanitary food practices, the health department's food safety team in Ludhiana conducted surprise inspections at several bakery units across the city. During the two-day drive held on Wednesday and Thursday, three out of five inspected bakeries were issued on-the-spot challans for violating hygiene standards.
The bakeries that faced penalties are located in Jalandhar Bypass, Basti Jodhewal, and Tibba Road, officials confirmed.
The inspection primarily targeted units involved in the production of popular bakery items such as fruit cakes, buns, rusks (fans), and cream rolls. The food safety team found several operations running in conditions that failed to meet basic cleanliness and food safety norms.
To ensure thorough evaluation, officials collected multiple samples from the units for laboratory analysis. Items sent for testing include:
-
Two types of fruit cakes
-
Cream
-
Salt
-
Used cooking oil
-
Palmolein oil
-
Milk cake
-
Rusks (fans)
-
Cream rolls
These samples have been dispatched to the State Food Laboratory, where detailed testing will determine the presence of contaminants or violations of food safety standards.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Amarjit Kaur issued a strong statement following the drive.
“Ensuring food safety is our topmost priority. No bakery or food unit will be allowed to compromise public health through unhygienic practices. We are committed to enforcing the law strictly,” she said.
The department also emphasized that such drives will continue regularly to maintain high standards of public health and hygiene in the city’s food industry.
