Bakery owner in Ludhiana receives extortion call from imposter posing as ASI

A modest bakery in the thriving city of Ludhiana finds itself enmeshed in a web of mystery and intrigue as the fragrance of freshly baked goodies fills the air. A voice on the other end of the phone claims to be an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the neighborhood police station one fateful morning when the phone rings. The unaware owner of the bakery has no idea that this seemingly unimportant phone conversation would launch them into a thrilling series of events that will test their nerves, fortitude, and ingenuity. Welcome to a gripping story where the art of deception takes center stage as truth and lies clash.

An unnamed caller who pretended to be a police officer and demanded money from a bakery owner while threatening to kill both him and his 12-year-old kid has been arrested by Division Number 6 police.

The complainant, who requested anonymity, said that on Saturday, he was present at his bakery along with his son when he received a WhatsApp Call from an unknown number. The caller had introduced himself as ASI Gurdeep Singh.

He asked about the location of his 12-year-old son and demanded extortion money from him. The complainant stated that he disconnected the phone and informed the police.

Inspector Balwinder Kaur, SHO at Division number 6 police station, said that it is suspected that the accused used the name of an ASI to threaten the bakery owner. It is a new strategy of the criminals.

Kaur said that the criminals question people about their children and if their children are not around, the callers would claim that they have kidnapped them and extort money.

According to Kaur, the crooks ask individuals about their children; if the youngsters are not there, the calls pretend to have abducted the children and demand money.

The SHO said that the extortion call was made using a virtual number, which is untraceable.

According to sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 511 (attempt to commit an offense) of the IPC, the Division Number 6 police have filed a FIR against unnamed accused.
