Massive Jaipur Ghee Seizure: 35,000 Litres Confiscated in Major Food Safety Crackdown

A shocking food safety operation in Jaipur has raised serious concerns about the purity of dairy products, after authorities seized approximately 35,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee and sealed a manufacturing facility.

A Major Raid on Himalaya Dairy Products

On November 3, 2026, food safety officials conducted a major inspection at the Himalaya Dairy Products factory in Jaipur, Rajasthan, as part of the state government's “Shuddh Aahar-Milawat Par Vaar” campaign against food adulteration.

During the operation, officials seized approximately 35,000 litres of ghee and sealed the entire manufacturing and packaging facility over suspected adulteration and regulatory irregularities.

The large-scale seizure has sparked concerns about the quality and authenticity of dairy products reaching consumers.

Ghee Was Being Packed Under Seven Brand Names

According to officials, the factory was packaging ghee under seven different brand names:

- Rajasthan Saras

- Dairy Brothers

- Shri Kiran Saras

- Matula

- Choice Dairy

- Raghu Shri

- Ganak

The seized ghee was stored in containers ranging from 200 millilitres to 15 litres, with thousands of litres also kept in large storage silos.

Authorities are examining the packaging, labelling, and documentation associated with these products.

Suspicious Flavouring Substance Raises Concerns

One of the most concerning discoveries during the inspection was a suspicious flavouring substance allegedly concealed under the label of a cleaning chemical.

Officials suspect that artificial flavouring agents may have been used to imitate the aroma of pure dairy ghee.

However, the exact nature of the substance and whether adulteration occurred will only be established after laboratory testing.

Samples of both the ghee and the suspicious substance have been collected and sent for analysis.

Factory Sealed Over Serious Irregularities

Officials also reported that the factory's food licence was not displayed during the inspection.

Following the discovery of suspected irregularities, authorities sealed the entire facility, including its manufacturing and packaging units.

The investigation will examine the production process, raw materials, and relevant documentation to determine whether food safety regulations were violated.

LWhy This Incident Matters to Consumers

Ghee is a staple ingredient in millions of Indian households, particularly during festivals, religious ceremonies, and everyday cooking.

The incident highlights the importance of food quality monitoring and consumer awareness.

Consumers should:

- Purchase dairy products from trusted retailers.

- Check packaging, labels, and manufacturer details.

- Look for valid food safety licensing information.

- Report suspicious food products to the relevant food safety authorities.

Conclusion

The seizure of 35,000 litres of suspected ghee in Jaipur represents a significant food safety enforcement operation.

While laboratory results are still awaited, the discovery of a suspicious flavouring substance and multiple packaging irregularities has raised serious questions about dairy product authenticity.

The case reinforces the need for stricter inspections, transparent manufacturing practices, and stronger consumer protection to ensure that food products sold in India meet established safety standards.

The final findings of the laboratory investigation will be crucial in determining the extent of suspected adulteration and the legal action that may follow.
