In a deeply saddening incident from Bhopal’s Nishatpura area, Lalita Dubey, a bedridden elderly woman, died after being left alone in a locked house. Her son, Arun, along with his wife and child, went to Ujjain, leaving her without food or water.
The tragedy came to light when Arun informed his brother, Ajay, about their trip. Ajay, who lives in Indore, became worried about their mother’s health and asked a friend in Bhopal to check on her. Sadly, the friend found Lalita dead inside the house.
The police sent her body for an autopsy, which revealed that she died from hunger and dehydration. Unable to move or take care of herself, Lalita suffered for 24 hours before passing away.
Following a complaint from Ajay, Bhopal Police registered a case against Arun under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for unintentional murder, along with charges under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
Inspector Rupesh Dubey said, “Lalita Dubey’s death was caused by hunger and thirst. Being bedridden, she couldn’t get food, water, or her medicines. This unfortunate incident highlights the severe negligence of her son.”
This heartbreaking case has raised concerns about the care and safety of elderly people in families.
