Amul Follows Mother Dairy in Announcing Rs 2 Per Litre Milk Price Hike from May 1

Consumers will have to pay more for their daily dose of milk as dairy giant Amul has announced a price hike of Rs 2 per litre, effective from Thursday, May 1, 2025. The revised rates will impact several widely consumed milk variants including Amul Standard, Buffalo Milk, Gold, Slim n Trim, Chai Mazza, Taaza, and Cow Milk.

The decision comes just a day after Mother Dairy implemented a similar price increase of up to Rs 2 per litre on April 30, citing surging input costs such as cattle feed, logistics, and operational expenses.

Amul’s revised prices will apply across multiple regions, including Gujarat’s key markets—Ahmedabad, Saurashtra, and Kutch. While half-litre (500ml) packs of most variants will see a Rs 1 increase, one-litre packs are set to go up by Rs 2.

The cooperative stated that the price adjustment was necessary to ensure fair remuneration to dairy farmers and to sustain the supply chain amid inflationary pressures in the dairy sector.

Mother Dairy, which had raised its rates earlier this week, brought the price of its full cream milk to Rs 69 per litre, up from Rs 67. Similar hikes were recorded across its toned and double-toned variants.

With both major dairy players revising their prices within the same week, consumers across urban and rural India are likely to feel the pinch. The move reflects broader inflationary trends impacting the agriculture and food sectors.

Industry experts suggest that more dairy companies could follow suit in the coming months if production costs continue to escalate.
