American Dessert Icon Carvel Enters India with First Store in New Delhi
Carvel, America’s beloved soft serve ice cream brand, launches its first store in New Delhi, India. The brand plans to open 100 stores nationwide, offering iconic desserts tailored for Indian consumers.
One of America’s most iconic dessert brands, Carvel, has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its first outlet in New Delhi. Known for pioneering the concept of soft serve ice cream since its inception in 1934, Carvel’s arrival signifies a new chapter in India's rapidly evolving dessert scene.
Founded by Tom Carvel over 90 years ago, the brand enjoys a legendary status in the United States for its rich, creamy soft serves and whimsical ice cream cakes. Now, Indian dessert lovers can experience the same nostalgic charm and indulgent treats right in their neighborhood.
The Indian foray is spearheaded by Unify Foodworks, which holds exclusive master franchise rights for Carvel in the country. Backed by an ambitious roadmap, the company plans to open 100 stores across major Indian cities in the coming years.
“This is more than just a brand launch; it’s about building moments of joy,” said Sumer Sethi, Founder of Unify Foodworks. “Carvel represents celebration, comfort, and connection – values that deeply resonate with Indian families, youth, and working professionals alike. We aim to create spaces that are not just about desserts but about shared experiences.”
The first store in Delhi is designed to reflect Carvel’s signature warm and friendly vibe, while incorporating elements that appeal to Indian sensibilities. The menu includes Carvel classics such as Flying Saucers, vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, pistachio, and coffee flavors — all crafted to be delightful, accessible, and perfect for everyday enjoyment.
India’s dessert industry is undergoing a vibrant transformation, with consumers increasingly open to global flavors and formats. Carvel's entry comes at a time when Indian palates are embracing a mix of innovation and nostalgia, making it a fitting addition to the urban foodscape.
Steven Yang, Senior Vice President, APAC at GoTo Foods International, commented, “India is an exciting and growing market for premium dessert experiences. Carvel’s strong heritage of quality aligns well with the evolving expectations of Indian customers. Our partnership with Unify Foodworks ensures that we can grow with local understanding and relevance.”
As Carvel begins its journey in India, it aims not only to sell ice cream but also to build a loyal community around shared joy. With an emphasis on everyday indulgence, affordability, and heartfelt moments, Carvel hopes to become a beloved part of India’s food culture.
In a market where tradition meets experimentation, Carvel is poised to become more than just an international dessert chain — it’s setting out to be a part of India’s daily celebrations.
