Actor and investor Suniel Shetty has launched "Waayu," a food delivery app that offers restaurants a zero-commission platform.
Indian actor and investor Suniel Shetty has launched a new food delivery app called "Waayu," which aims to offer restaurants a zero-commission platform. Additionally, Shetty not only serves as the brand ambassador for the company but also has a stake in the equity of the business.
In an interview with Moneycontrol, Shetty expressed his views on the current startup ecosystem and stressed the importance of a lean team with basic cash flow in the tough funding climate. He also emphasized that he is not interested in unicorns but will continue to back great founders and ideas while ensuring good management is in place.
The app will have a fixed fee of INR 1,000 per month per outlet during the introductory period, which will later increase to INR 2,000. The platform also plans to integrate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Shetty has invested in several startups in the past, including becoming the brand ambassador for fitness startup Aquatein after investing an undisclosed amount in February 2022. He expressed his intention to invest in more startups in 2023 and said he looks for founders who prioritize covering their backs rather than indulging in luxury.
The launch of "Waayu" comes at a time when the food delivery market is highly competitive, with established players like Zomato and Swiggy dominating the industry. However, Waayu's zero-commission model may attract small restaurant owners who are looking for a cost-effective alternative to the existing options.
