30 Telangana Students Hospitalized After Worms Found in Mid-Day Meal

Hyderabad: At least 30 students from Maganoor Zilla Parishad Government High School in Telangana's Narayanpet district fell ill on Wednesday after consuming a mid-day meal allegedly contaminated with worms. The incident has prompted Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to order a detailed investigation and take immediate action against those responsible.

The students reportedly complained of severe stomach pain and vomiting shortly after eating the meal, which included upma. Alarmed by their condition, school authorities quickly rushed the children to a local hospital for medical treatment. According to the district medical and health officer, the condition of most students is now stable, though four students required additional care.

One of the affected students stated, "We ate the upma served at school. Later, we were told there were worms in the food, and it was thrown away by the authorities."

Parents of some children alleged negligence in the preparation of the food, claiming that worms were visibly present in the meal served to the students.

In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed the district collector of Narayanpet to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a detailed report. He also instructed officials to ensure that all affected students receive the best possible medical care.

Mr. Reddy emphasized that those found guilty of negligence would face strict disciplinary action, including suspension. He further alerted district collectors across the state to enhance food safety measures in schools, stating that such incidents should never be repeated.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government's commitment to providing nutritious and safe meals to students under the mid-day meal program. "The well-being of our children is non-negotiable," he stated, warning all involved to prioritize quality control in food preparation.

The incident has sparked outrage among parents and the general public, highlighting the need for stricter hygiene and monitoring standards in school meal programs. An official probe is underway, and further updates are awaited.
