Swiggy Expands ‘Food on Train’ to 115+ Stations, Introduces Festive Meal Gifting Trend

Swiggy Limited has announced a major expansion of its Food on Train service, now available at more than 115 railway stations across 28 states and union territories. The move strengthens Swiggy’s presence on key railway routes ahead of the festive season, while also tapping into a growing trend of passengers sending meals to loved ones through its ‘Order for Others’ feature.

Deepak Maloo, VP – Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives at Swiggy, said:
“Food has always been a special part of train journeys, and Swiggy is making sure it becomes a memorable one. With Food on Train, passengers no longer have to depend on pantry cars or vendors. They can now enjoy fresh, hygienic, restaurant-quality meals delivered right to their seats. What’s more, our ‘Order for Others’ trend shows how families and friends are using food to share love during train journeys, especially during festivals.”

Traditionally, passengers relied on pantry cars or local vendors, often with limited and unhygienic options. Swiggy’s PNR-based logistics system ensures timely seat delivery between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm, even during short two-minute halts. The expansion also includes 15 new stations such as Madgaon, Tirupati, Ernakulam Junction, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, and Jalandhar, covering student hubs, pilgrimage routes, and popular tourist destinations.

Swiggy reports that nearly 14% of Food on Train orders now come through its ‘Order for Others’ feature, where people send meals to friends and family traveling by train. Lunch remains the most preferred mealtime, while homestyle options such as vegetarian thalis, rice bowls, fruit plates, and sandwiches are among the top choices.

Cities like Vijayawada, Warangal, Salem, Nagpur, Thrissur, and Nellore account for nearly 20% of such orders, showing how the feature is being adopted across diverse regions.

To enhance the festive travel experience, Swiggy is also curating regional delicacies for passengers along specific routes. Travellers can now enjoy:

  • Malvani Fish Curry along the Konkan line

  • Kerala Sadya in Kochi

  • Goan Rice Plates

  • Mangalorean Gravies

  • Gujarati Thalis

  • Rajasthani Specials

All meals are freshly prepared and delivered directly to passengers’ seats at the scheduled station.
