Supreme Court Orders Fresh Probe into Tirupati Laddu Row, Forms SIT
The apex court has constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations of animal fat being used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus. The SIT will be supervised by the CBI director.
New Delhi, October 4: In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered a fresh investigation into the ongoing Tirupati laddu controversy and constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT will comprise officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Andhra Pradesh Police, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The decision comes in the wake of allegations made against the previous state government regarding the use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati laddus. The Supreme Court, while hearing a batch of petitions related to the matter, expressed its dissatisfaction with the existing investigation and deemed it necessary to appoint an independent body to oversee the probe.
The SIT will be supervised by the CBI director, ensuring a fair and impartial investigation. The court also emphasized that it would not allow the legal proceedings to be used for political gain.
The controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made public allegations about the use of animal fat in the Tirupati laddu production during the previous regime led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, the Supreme Court found the laboratory test reports inconclusive and questioned the timing of the state government's actions.
The SIT's mandate will be to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ascertain the truth behind the allegations. The court's decision is expected to bring clarity to the controversy and restore public confidence in the quality of the iconic Tirupati laddus.
