Strengthening Disaster Management: Amit Shah Announces Major Schemes Worth Rs 8,000 Crore

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the implementation of three significant disaster management schemes, amounting to over Rs 8,000 crore. During a meeting held at Vigyan Bhawan, Shah chaired a session with the disaster management departments of various States and Union Territories.
The schemes include a Rs 5,000 crore project aimed at expanding and modernizing fire services across states, a Rs 2,500 crore project focused on reducing the risk of urban flooding in seven populous metros including Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune, and a Rs 825 crore National Landslide Risk Mitigation Scheme covering 17 states and union territories to address landslide mitigation.
Highlighting the progress made in disaster management over the past nine years, Shah emphasized the need for continued efforts due to the changing nature, increased frequency, and intensity of disasters. He stressed the importance of extensive planning to tackle these challenges effectively.
Furthermore, Shah mentioned that strict protocols have been provided to states where nuclear power stations are being established, ensuring a systematic response to any emergency situations.
