Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has acquired a majority stake in Naturedge Beverages Private Limited. With this joint venture, RCPL is entering the fast-growing functional and herbal beverage segment, further strengthening its position as a Total Beverage Company.

Naturedge Beverages, founded in 2018 by Siddhesh Sharma, is best known for its herbal-infused, zero-sugar functional drink brand "Shunya". The drink is infused with powerful Indian herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, Khus, Kokum, and Green Tea. It contains zero sugar and zero calories, catering to India’s growing demand for healthy and natural beverage alternatives.

Consumer Shift Toward Healthier Alternatives

In a press release, RCPL highlighted the large and rapidly expanding opportunity in India’s functional health drink market, fueled by consumers’ shift toward healthier, natural alternatives.

"The healthy functional beverage space presents a large and rapidly expanding opportunity, driven by a strong consumer shift toward healthier, natural alternatives," the company stated.

Vision Behind the Partnership

Siddhesh Sharma, Director of Naturedge Beverages, emphasized that this partnership will help scale Shunya into a pan-India brand:

“The partnership with RCPL is a testament of Shunya’s rapidly growing acceptability among consumers. With our visions aligned, this JV aims to turn Shunya into a nationwide brand catering to consumers’ love for herbal-functional beverages that are refreshing and fun-filled. Super-herbs like Ashwagandha and Brahmi not only act as stress-relievers but also boost strength, stamina, and focus. Through RCPL’s wide distribution network, Shunya will now reach consumers across India.”

Reliance’s Strategic Move

Ketan Mody, Executive Director, Reliance Consumer Products, said the JV strengthens Reliance’s FMCG portfolio with Ayurveda-inspired functional beverages:

“Shunya has gained popularity among health-conscious consumers as it offers the benefits of herbs in contemporary formats. This partnership fits with RCPL’s vision of providing quality products at affordable prices while promoting India’s legacy. Consumers can now expect more innovation and a wider range of herbal-natural functional beverages in the future.”

What This Means for India’s Beverage Industry

With Reliance’s massive distribution and supply chain network, the partnership is set to scale Shunya nationwide. This move positions Reliance as a strong competitor in India’s healthy beverage segment, competing with both domestic startups and multinational beverage giants looking to tap into the wellness trend.
