Pizza delivery delay sparks argument, and a businessman fires a gun in a Pune neighborhood

In a recent incident that occurred on Monday night within the Ozone Villas residential society in Pune's Wagholi area, a 28-year-old businessman, identified as Chetan Vasant Padwal, who owns a stone-crusher business, was arrested by the police on several charges, including attempted culpable homicide.

The altercation began when Padwal ordered a pizza around 10:30 pm, and delivery executive Rahul Ghorpade, along with his colleague Rushikesh Annapurve, were assigned to make the delivery. Due to shared transportation arrangements, both executives arrived at Padwal's residence to deliver the pizza. However, things took a violent turn a little after 11 pm when an argument ensued over a delivery delay. Padwal allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted the delivery executives.

Following the attack, the two delivery executives promptly reported the incident to Rohit Hulsure, a 22-year-old manager at the Wagholi franchise of an international pizza restaurant chain. Hulsure, along with two others from the restaurant and the two delivery executives, then went to confront Padwal at his home.

According to the filed First Information Report (FIR), an argument ensued between Padwal and Hulsure, resulting in Hulsure being allegedly assaulted by Padwal. Shockingly, Padwal then retrieved a licensed pistol from his car and fired a shot into the air in an upward direction. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries in the incident.

The Lonikand police have charged Padwal with attempted culpable homicide, as the fired bullet posed a serious risk to individuals, particularly those residing on upper floors within the residential society. Additionally, he faces charges of voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade, who heads the Lonikand police station, confirmed that Padwal possessed a valid license for the registered firearm used during the incident.
