Maharashtra FDA Suspends 105 Food Business Licences in Major Pre-Diwali Crackdown

Authorities Seize Unsafe Food Worth ₹1.35 Crore Following Statewide Inspections

Mumbai, November 7, 20

26In a major food safety enforcement drive ahead of Diwali, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of 105 food businesses and ordered seven establishments to shut down following inspections conducted across the state on November 4 and 5.

According to reports, authorities seized approximately 39,485 kilograms of food products valued at ₹1.35 crore from more than 69 establishments. The inspection campaign targeted violations involving food hygiene, storage practices, manufacturing standards and licensing requirements.

Several popular food businesses and quick-commerce platforms, including establishments associated with Blinkit and Zepto, were among those facing regulatory action. Officials also identified shortcomings in food-handler training records, medical documentation and compliance with food safety regulations.

The inspections covered multiple divisions across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Amravati. Authorities emphasised that food businesses must maintain proper hygiene and ensure that products supplied to consumers meet prescribed safety standards.

The crackdown highlights the growing importance of food safety monitoring during festive periods, when demand for sweets, snacks and packaged food products increases significantly.

The FDA's action serves as a reminder that food businesses must prioritise consumer health, transparent operations and regulatory compliance. Regular inspections and strict enforcement remain essential to preventing food adulteration and protecting public health.
