IRCTC is soon set to launch its food ordering service through WhatsApp

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is planning to expand its food ordering service through WhatsApp. This service, which was launched last year on selected train routes, uses an AI-powered chatbot to allow train passengers to order food via a WhatsApp number or through the IRCTC e-catering website. Based on customer feedback, IRCTC plans to make the service available to more travelers on various routes.

Through the IRCTC e-catering website or Food on Track app, train travelers can book meals from selected restaurants at their stations. The first phase of the e-catering service through WhatsApp saw travelers who had booked e-tickets receive a message from a business WhatsApp number offering the option to opt-in for the service. They could then book meals directly from the IRCTC website without downloading an app.

The second phase of the service will offer an interactive WhatsApp system for meal booking and delivery to more travelers. Users will be able to manage their orders and ask questions related to the e-catering service through the official WhatsApp number. Currently, the IRCTC e-catering service serves about 50,000 meals daily through its website and app, and the expansion of the service to more train routes will provide a convenient and efficient way for travelers to order food while in transit.
