Indian Railways Cuts Rail Neer Prices After GST Reduction — Check New Rates From September 22

Travelers on Indian Railways will soon pay less for bottled water. The Railway Board has announced a price cut on Rail Neer bottles following the government’s decision to rationalise GST slabs. The new prices will be effective from September 22, 2025, across stations and trains.

New Rail Neer Prices Announced

According to the official circular, the maximum retail price (MRP) of 1-litre Rail Neer has been reduced from ₹15 to ₹14, while the 500 ml bottle will now cost ₹9 instead of ₹10.

The revised prices will also apply to other shortlisted packaged drinking water brands sold at railway premises and onboard trains.

Why the Price Cut? GST Slabs Reduced

The decision comes after the 56th GST Council meeting earlier this month, where the government reduced the four-tier GST structure to two slabs:

  • 5% slab → For essential goods and services such as packaged namkeen, noodles, sauces, chocolates, coffee, ghee, agricultural products, and medical equipment.

  • 18% slab → Standard rate for most consumer goods and services, including automobiles (small cars, motorcycles), and electronics.

The government has directed industries to ensure the benefits of lower GST are passed on to consumers, aiming to boost demand and strengthen the domestic economy.

Impact on Consumers

For daily passengers and long-distance travelers, the price reduction will provide small but direct savings. Considering the high sales of Rail Neer bottles on trains, the move is expected to impact millions of travelers every month.

Brands like Amul, HUL, L’Oréal, and Himalaya have also reduced prices of select goods in response to the new GST regime.

With the GST reform leading to reduced prices of daily-use goods, Indian Railways’ step to lower Rail Neer costs reflects the government’s push to ensure affordability and consumer welfare. Passengers can expect the new prices from September 22, 2025, across railway stations and trains nationwide.
