FSSAI Seizes ₹1.75 Lakh of Mislabelled Products from Ambica Dairy Products in Gujarat

In a major enforcement action, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in Ahmedabad has seized dairy analogue products valued at ₹1.75 lakh from a local manufacturer. The products were allegedly being sold as Milk Halwa, despite the manufacturer holding a license only for producing traditional Khoa and dairy-based items.

Authorities state that mislabeling and unauthorized production pose significant risks to consumer trust and food safety.

Seizure Conducted at Ambica Dairy Products

During an inspection, FSSAI officials discovered that Ambica Dairy Products was producing a dairy analogue—an imitation product often made with non-dairy fats—and marketing it as Milk Halwa.

This violates the terms of its FSSAI license, which permits only the manufacture of traditional dairy products, not analogues.

Officials emphasized that misrepresentation of food items is a serious breach of regulatory compliance, especially when sold as genuine dairy-based sweets.

Why Dairy Analogue Mislabeling Is a Concern

Consumer Health & Safety Risks

Imitation dairy products may not meet the nutritional standards of authentic dairy items. Incorrect labeling can mislead consumers who rely on packaging for food choices.

Violation of Licensing Norms

Under FSSAI regulations, manufacturers must clearly declare if a product contains dairy analogues. Selling analogue-based items as milk products is prohibited.

Impact on Food Authenticity and Market Fairness

Improper labeling undermines confidence in traditional Indian sweets and affects genuine dairy manufacturers who follow standards.

FSSAI’s Continued Enforcement Efforts

FSSAI has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer health, food authenticity, and regulatory compliance.

Authorities stated that similar inspections will continue across Gujarat and other regions to curb misuse of licenses and mislabeling practices.

The recent seizure in Ahmedabad highlights FSSAI’s heightened vigilance against food adulteration and misbranding. With growing consumer demand for transparency, regulatory bodies are expected to intensify inspections and impose stricter penalties on violators.

More crackdowns across the state may follow as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe, authentic, and correctly labelled food products reach consumers.
