The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized approximately 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee worth ₹35 lakh from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat.

The raid was carried out under a special ghee surveillance drive launched to curb the adulteration of ghee with foreign fats.

Lab Tests Confirm Sub-standard Ghee

During the initial inspection, FSSAI collected ghee samples and sent them to an FSSAI-notified laboratory. The lab report confirmed that the ghee was “sub-standard” and adulterated with vegetable fat, a direct violation of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.

The concerned Food Business Operator (FBO) was informed of the findings and given one month to appeal the results by sending a sample to a referral laboratory. However, no appeal was filed.

Follow-Up Inspection and Seizure

On August 20, 2025, a follow-up inspection was conducted. Based on confirmed evidence of adulteration, FSSAI seized all stocks of food ingredients and finished goods from the Rajkot dairy unit.

Fresh ghee samples were also collected and sent for further analysis. The Central Licensing Authority is expected to initiate further legal and regulatory action once the final lab results are received.

Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Food Adulteration

FSSAI reiterated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration and is committed to ensuring that all food business operators comply with food safety standards.

The authority emphasized that consumers have the right to safe and unadulterated food, and any violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act) will attract strict action.
