FSSAI & Danone India Launch “Mauli” – India’s First All-Women Clean Street Food Hub in Mumbai

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with Danone India, has launched “Mauli”, the country’s first all-women clean street food hub, in Kandivali, Mumbai. The hub was inaugurated by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, marking a significant step towards safe street food, women’s empowerment, and community development.

A Hub Powered by Women Entrepreneurs

“Mauli” is operated entirely by women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Each vendor has undergone FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification), a programme that equips them with essential skills in food safety, hygiene, and business management. This ensures that customers enjoy clean, high-quality, and safe street food in Mumbai.

By creating this hub, FSSAI and Danone India are not only transforming Mumbai’s street food culture but also empowering women to become successful food entrepreneurs.

Voices from the Launch

Shashi Ranjan, Managing Director, Danone India, highlighted the company’s commitment:
“At Danone, we aim to positively impact lives in line with our mission of bringing health through food. Through our partnership with FSSAI’s Eat Right India initiative, we are building safe food zones and promoting hygiene. By equipping women with resources and skills, we are enabling sustainable livelihoods and ensuring food safety standards in India.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal called the launch a milestone:
“The inauguration of Mauli, India’s first all-women clean street food hub in Kandivali, is a proud achievement under FSSAI’s Eat Right India movement. This initiative is a shining example of women’s empowerment, food safety, and community development in action.”

Training & Expansion Plans

So far, more than 6,000 street food vendors in western India have been trained under the FoSTaC programme. During the Kandivali launch, another 200 vendors received training.

In the next phase, FSSAI aims to train over 10,000 vendors across the western region. Additionally, the authority plans to open more clean street food hubs in major Indian cities while expanding the Eat Right India movement into schools, workplaces, and communities.

A Step Towards Safer Street Food in India

With initiatives like Mauli, FSSAI and Danone India are reshaping the future of street food in Mumbai and across India. By combining food safety, hygiene, and women’s empowerment, the programme not only raises consumer trust but also ensures sustainable livelihoods for women entrepreneurs.
