New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have come together to promote healthy eating practices and ensure the availability of safe and nutritious food for the armed forces. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday marks an important step in this direction.
The primary objective of the MoU is to raise awareness among personnel about the nutritional benefits of a diverse diet and the consumption of millet-based food products. As part of the agreement, millet-based menus will be introduced in mess, canteens, and other food outlets under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were present at the signing ceremony and also unveiled a book titled 'Healthy Recipes for Defence.' Developed by the FSSAI, the book promotes the consumption of millets, also known as Shree Anna, and highlights their numerous health benefits.
In addition to the armed forces, the MoU aims to encourage families and the wider community to adopt nutritious diets, make healthy food choices, and prioritize food safety.
