Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra: In a shocking development, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a case against the proprietor and manager of a New Delhi-based company for allegedly tampering with popular food products and selling them in the market.
Following a tip-off, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a raid on the company's premises in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, on February 9 and 10. During the raid, they seized a large quantity of tampered food items valued at Rs 24.52 lakh, including products from well-known brands.
Authorities allege that the accused tampered with various aspects of the food products, including:
- Batch numbers
- Manufacture and expiry dates
- Labels displaying nutritional information
- Ingredients list
These altered products were then allegedly sold to unsuspecting consumers, posing a potential health risk.
Legal Action:
Based on the FDA's complaint, the Turbhe police have registered a case against the two accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including:
- Section 272: Adulteration of food or drink intended for sale
- Section 273: Sale of noxious food or drink
- Additionally, charges under relevant FDA regulations have been filed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the full extent of the alleged tampering is yet to be determined. The authorities are urging consumers to be vigilant and carefully check the packaging and labeling of food products before purchasing them.
