Borivali Sweet Shop Owner Arrested for Food Adulteration; Mumbai Police Seize Rs 31 Lakh in Contaminated Food Products
Mumbai Police, in collaboration with the FDA, conducted a raid at Maa Ashapura Sweets in Borivali, arresting owner Himmatsing Mohansing Rajput for food adulteration. Authorities seized contaminated food products valued at over Rs 31 lakh, including decayed cashews and unhygienic sweets, ensuring consumer safety.
In a major operation against food adulteration, Mumbai Police, alongside the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), raided a sweet production unit in Borivali (East) and arrested the owner for using unhygienic ingredients. Acting on a tip-off, the authorities targeted Maa Ashapura Sweets in Daulat Nagar, where owner Himmatsing Mohansing Rajput and his employees were found preparing sweets with contaminated materials.
During the raid, officials discovered decayed cashews, dry fruits, and other harmful additives mixed into the sweets. The 41-year-old Rajput, a Borivali (East) resident, was detained along with his workers. The operation led to the seizure of a significant quantity of adulterated food items, including cashews and cashew powder.
The confiscated items included:
- 1,123 kg of cashew powder
- 3,809 kg of cashews
- 3,369 kg of Kaju Katli
- 58 kg of ghee
- 28 kg of assorted sweets
The total estimated value of the seized products is Rs 31,05,320.
Following the raid, the authorities prepared a panchnama and documented the seized goods with independent witnesses present. The confiscated items and Rajput have been handed over to FDA officials for further investigation, according to Inspector Nitin Patil of Unit 13.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat food adulteration in Mumbai, ensuring the safety and health of consumers.
