Chennai: In a concerning incident in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai, around 30 students from a local school were hospitalized on Friday after experiencing symptoms of throat irritation and uneasiness, believed to be caused by a suspected gas leak. This incident caused panic among students, staff, and parents, while all affected students are reportedly safe and undergoing medical treatment.

NDRF commander AK Chauhan, present at the scene, stated, “We are yet to confirm the exact cause. Our team inspected the area and found no detectable gas smell or any signs of leakage from the AC systems.” However, the cause remains unclear, and officials are continuing to investigate.

Meanwhile, frustrated parents have expressed concerns over the lack of clarity provided by the school. One parent shared, "The school administration hasn’t given us proper information. My child has had throat irritation for the past three days, but we thought it was minor. Today, they admitted her to the hospital.”

Local police have arrived on the scene, working with forensic teams and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) officials to assess the school’s premises. They are investigating the source of the suspected leak and taking measures to ensure the safety of students and prevent further incidents.
