Explore the grand celebration of fashion, art, and culinary excellence at the Met Gala 2023, paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld with a spectacular dinner menu inspired by one of his famous soirees.
The annual Met Gala, held on May 1, 2023, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, was a grand celebration of fashion, art, and culinary excellence. This year's event paid homage to the late German fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, with a theme based on the Costume Institute's spring show "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty". The gala was attended by a host of celebrities, including Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, Alia Bhatt, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Isha Ambani.
The culinary concept for the Met Gala 2023 was inspired by one of Lagerfeld's famous soirees - the wedding reception he hosted for Pablo Picasso's daughter, Paloma Picasso. Famed caterer Olivier Cheng recreated Lagerfeld's soiree of 1978 by organizing tables with linen napkins, vintage chinaware, hand-painted candle stands, and a bouquet of pink flowers at the center. The background was inspired by the designer's home library, setting the perfect ambiance for the event.
The dinner menu at meta gala 2023 was as spectacular as the theme, with chilled spring pea soup with baby vegetables, lemon creme fraiche, and truffle snow being served as the appetizer. The main course consisted of Ora King salmon with vegetable nage, asparagus, pickled strawberries, and radish. To top it off, the meal ended with various bite-sized confectionaries (petit fours) for a sweet ending to the event. For drinks, wine and diet coke were served, with diet coke being one of Lagerfeld's favorite soft drinks.
The Met Gala 2023 was a grand celebration of fashion, art, and culinary excellence, and the tribute paid to Karl Lagerfeld made it all the more special. The event showcased the best of fashion and culinary creativity, and it will be remembered as one of the most spectacular Met Galas to date.
