Parliament Canteen Gets Healthy Menu with Millets, Salads and Organic Food

NEW DELHI: This Monsoon Session, MPs and visitors at Parliament can enjoy healthier food choices in the canteen. The Parliament canteen has launched a new ‘Health Menu’ with more fibre-rich salads, protein soups, and organic dishes to help everyone eat better during busy days.

Indian favourites like idli and upma now come with a healthy twist, made from ragi, millets, and jowar instead of regular rice or wheat. Grilled fish with vegetables is also on the menu for those looking for tasty protein options.

This new healthy menu is an idea by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The goal is to help MPs, staff, and visitors eat fresh and nutritious food that supports a healthy lifestyle.

A senior official said, “Every dish is made carefully to be low in carbs, salt, and calories, but high in fibre, protein, and vitamins. The menu also shows how many calories each dish has, so people can pick what suits them best.”

Along with the new healthy meals, the canteen will still serve popular curries and thalis, so everyone has more choices.

In recent sessions, there has been a growing demand for lighter and healthier food options. The new menu offers more fresh salads and healthy soups to meet this need. Parliament hopes this step will inspire people to choose healthy food while working long hours.
