Mumbai has been ranked as the 14th best food city in the world in Time Out’s latest list of the top 20 global food destinations for 2025. The only Indian city to make it to the prestigious list, Mumbai was recognized for its vibrant street food culture, particularly its famous khau gallis.
Time Out highlighted the diverse and bold flavors of Mumbai’s street food, stating, "The go-to places for a quick fix when hungry are the khau gallis (food streets) dotting neighborhoods from southern Zaveri Bazaar to northern Ghatkopar. Between savory chaat, jumbo sandwiches, veggie-laden 'pizzas,' Beirut-inspired Frankie wraps, and dry-fruit topped falooda, every bite is far from demure – never subtle and never shy."
Last year, Mumbai held the 8th position in the same rankings. The 2025 list is topped by New Orleans (USA), followed by Bangkok (Thailand) and Medellin (Colombia).
