Karnataka: Despite a decrease in mango yield this summer, the home delivery of mangoes initiative has not been completely hindered. India Post, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd. (KSMDMCL), successfully delivered 19 tonnes of mangoes in Bengaluru this season. This achievement is commendable considering the challenging circumstances and the lower yield experienced this year.
The 'Karsiri' initiative, which was launched during the lockdown in 2020, offers a convenient door-to-door mango delivery service. In the 2021 season, the department delivered 75 tonnes of mangoes, followed by 70 tonnes in 2022. Despite the decrease in yield, the KSMDMCL managed to deliver 19 tonnes of mangoes within a span of just over a month, from April 5 to May 12, this year.
The home delivery of mangoes is now available in 31 PIN codes across Karnataka, including prominent cities like Bengaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mysuru, Belagavi, Mangaluru, Hassan, Mandya, and other parts of the state.

One significant aspect of this initiative is the assurance that the mangoes delivered to customers are free from cancer-causing calcium carbide, a commonly used ripening agent. The mangoes are either naturally ripened or sourced from KSMDMC-approved ripening chambers that utilize natural ethylene gas for the ripening process, a method widely accepted worldwide.
Despite the challenges posed by the reduced mango yield this season, the home delivery service provided by India Post and KSMDMCL has managed to bring the goodness of mangoes to people's doorsteps. This initiative not only ensures the availability of high-quality mangoes but also prioritizes the health and well-being of consumers.
