The action comes amid growing scrutiny of the upscale restaurant chain, a day after it faced legal action in Bengaluru over alleged regulatory violations.
Income Tax Searches at Bastian Mumbai
According to sources quoted by News18, officials from the Income Tax Department conducted searches at Bastian’s premises in Mumbai’s Dadar area early on December 17. While the department has not yet issued an official statement, the operation reportedly began in the morning hours and remained underway for some time.

About Bastian Restaurant and Its Ownership
Bastian is co-owned by actor Shilpa Shetty and well-known restaurateur Ranjit Bindra. Launched in 2016, the restaurant quickly rose to prominence for its premium seafood-focused menu, luxury ambience, and nightlife-driven dining experience.
Over the years, Bastian has expanded its footprint with outlets in Mumbai and Bengaluru and has become a regular gathering spot for celebrities, influencers, and high-profile socialites.
Bengaluru Police FIR Adds to Bastian’s Troubles
The Income Tax action follows closely on the heels of legal trouble faced by Bastian Garden City in Bengaluru. On December 16, Bengaluru police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the establishment for allegedly operating beyond permitted hours.
The FIR was filed at Cubbon Park Police Station under Section 103 of the Karnataka Police Act, based on a suo motu complaint by the police. According to officials, the restaurant, located on St. Mark’s Road in central Bengaluru, was reportedly operational until around 1:30 am on December 11, exceeding the prescribed closing time.
Cases were registered against the managers and staff for violating local operational regulations, police sources said.
No Official Statement Yet from Authorities or Owners
As of now, neither the Income Tax Department nor the management of Bastian has issued an official response regarding the searches in Mumbai or the FIR in Bengaluru. Industry observers note that such investigations typically involve detailed scrutiny and may take time before conclusions are drawn.
