Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages to Invest ₹1,127 Crore in Andhra Pradesh, Plans New Vizianagaram Plant and Chittoor Expansion

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages will invest ₹1,127 crore in Andhra Pradesh, including ₹842 crore for a new Vizianagaram plant and ₹285 crore to expand its Chittoor facility, adding beverage production capacity for southern India.

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) is set to invest ₹1,127 crore in Andhra Pradesh as the beverage maker expands its manufacturing footprint to meet growing demand across southern India.

The investment will be split between a new manufacturing facility in Vizianagaram and an expansion of HCCB's existing manufacturing facility in Srikalahasti in the Chittoor region.

The investment proposal has been approved by the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Committee, according to sources cited by The Economic Times. The expansion will strengthen HCCB's production and distribution capabilities across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and adjoining markets.

₹842 Crore for New Manufacturing Facility in Vizianagaram

Of the total investment, HCCB plans to invest ₹842 crore in Vizianagaram to establish a new manufacturing facility.

The plant is planned with three bottling lines in its initial phase, with a combined capacity of around 18 million cases per year.

The proposed facility will include production capabilities for multiple beverage categories, including:

  • Carbonated soft drinks in large and small pack formats

  • Juices

  • Tetra-pack beverages

The company is also planning a second phase for the facility. This phase is expected to add two additional bottling lines, increasing capacity by another 12 million cases per year.

If both phases are implemented as outlined, the Vizianagaram facility could eventually have a planned production capacity of approximately 30 million cases annually.

₹285 Crore Expansion at Chittoor Facility

HCCB will invest another ₹285 crore to expand its existing facility at Srikalahasti in the Chittoor region.

The expansion will include:

  • One packaged drinking water bottling line

  • Two carbonated soft drink bottling lines

Unlike the new Vizianagaram project, the Chittoor expansion is planned entirely within the company's existing plant premises. According to the reported plan, no additional land acquisition will be required.

The expanded facility is expected to manufacture products across several of Coca-Cola's major beverage brands, including Coca-Cola, Thums Up, Sprite, Fanta, Limca and Kinley.

Why Andhra Pradesh Is Becoming Important for HCCB

The investment comes as HCCB continues to strengthen its manufacturing and distribution network in Andhra Pradesh.

The company already operates manufacturing facilities in the state, including its Atmakuru facility in Guntur district and Srikalahasti facility in the Tirupati district. HCCB says it operates 14 factories across India and serves more than 20 lakh retailers through a network of around 2,000 distributors.

The addition of a manufacturing facility in northern Andhra Pradesh would give HCCB a broader geographic manufacturing footprint within the state.

The planned locations also have a strategic distribution advantage. With production facilities in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, the company can position manufacturing capacity closer to major consumption markets in southern and central India.

A Push to Meet Rising Beverage Demand

The planned investment reflects the growing importance of manufacturing capacity in India's beverage and FMCG sector.

Beverage consumption is highly dependent on distribution speed, availability and regional demand, particularly during peak summer months. Expanding production capacity closer to major markets can help manufacturers respond to demand while improving the efficiency of their supply chains.

HCCB's planned manufacturing network in Andhra Pradesh is expected to support markets across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, according to the reported investment plan.

For a company operating across multiple beverage categories, additional bottling capacity also provides greater flexibility to scale different products according to market demand.

Investment Comes After Earlier Uncertainty

The Andhra Pradesh investment also comes against the backdrop of earlier uncertainty surrounding Coca-Cola-related investment plans in the state.

According to The Economic Times, the proposed expansion had previously been postponed following a leadership change within the company. The latest ₹1,127 crore plan now represents a renewed investment commitment involving both a new project and an expansion of an existing facility.

The investment had also become part of a political dispute in Andhra Pradesh after opposition leaders had claimed that a larger Coca-Cola investment proposal worth ₹1,199 crore had been withdrawn.

The latest plan, however, has received approval from the state's State Investment Promotion Committee.

What the Investment Means for Andhra Pradesh's FMCG Manufacturing Ecosystem

The HCCB investment is significant not only because of the size of the capital commitment but also because beverage manufacturing creates demand across a wider supply chain.

A large beverage manufacturing operation requires packaging materials, logistics, warehousing, distribution, maintenance, equipment, agricultural inputs and a range of supporting services.

HCCB says its broader operations involve more than 5,200 employees, around 2,000 distributors and more than 20 lakh retailers, while agricultural production from around 2.5 lakh farmers contributes to its supply chain.

The new investment could therefore have an impact beyond the factory gates by expanding activity across the surrounding industrial and logistics ecosystem.

HCCB has also been involved in skill-development initiatives in Andhra Pradesh. The company says it has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation to provide sales and marketing training, with more than 7,650 people trained so far through the initiative.

Strengthening Coca-Cola's Manufacturing Footprint in South India

The investment gives HCCB another opportunity to strengthen its position in one of India's most important consumer markets.

Southern India includes several large urban consumption centres as well as rapidly expanding tier-II and tier-III markets. A wider manufacturing footprint can help beverage companies manage demand across these markets while maintaining product availability.

The Vizianagaram facility would also give HCCB a stronger manufacturing presence in north Andhra Pradesh, complementing its existing operations further south.

At the same time, expanding the Srikalahasti facility allows the company to add capacity without acquiring additional land, making use of an existing industrial base.

The Bigger FMCG Investment Trend

HCCB's ₹1,127 crore investment comes at a time when India's FMCG and food-and-beverage companies are continuing to invest in manufacturing, distribution and supply-chain capacity.

For beverage manufacturers, capacity expansion is particularly important because demand can shift rapidly between product categories, pack sizes and regions.

The Andhra Pradesh projects combine both approaches: a greenfield manufacturing investment in Vizianagaram and brownfield expansion at an existing facility in Chittoor.

Together, they are designed to increase production capacity while creating a wider manufacturing network for HCCB across southern India.

The next stage will be the execution of the approved investment plan, including development of the Vizianagaram facility and installation of the planned production lines.

The Vizianagaram project is expected to begin with three bottling lines, while the second phase could add two more lines. The Chittoor expansion will add three new lines focused on packaged drinking water and carbonated soft drinks.

Once operational, the additional capacity could give HCCB greater flexibility to serve the rapidly evolving beverage market across southern India.

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages' ₹1,127 crore investment in Andhra Pradesh represents a major manufacturing expansion for one of India's largest beverage companies.

With ₹842 crore earmarked for a new Vizianagaram plant and ₹285 crore for expanding the Srikalahasti facility, the company is effectively increasing its production footprint at both a new location and an existing manufacturing base.

For Andhra Pradesh, the investment adds another major FMCG manufacturing project to the state's industrial ecosystem. For HCCB, it provides additional production capacity and a stronger regional base to serve beverage demand across southern India.
